Thermotex Blanket

Developed
for treatment of the central body of the animal, this
yellow blanket utilizes 12 infrared pads in total and
measures 62.5" x 73.5". The Thermotex blanket utilizes
288 watts of total power.
- 6
- 5" x 13" infrared pads cover the withers, back,
loin and croup.
- 6
- 11" x 13" infrared pads cover the shoulder,
barrel, thigh and lung areas.
Provides full body coverage for effective
treatment of severe muscle and joint problems. Also
effective for early treatment of lung bleeding.

Whether your goal is clinical treatment of a disorder,
accelerated warm-up for an event, routine maintenance
and prevention of problems or as an adjunct to other
physical therapy modalities, such as massage, the
Thermotex 12 pad blanket is the best topical heat
producing physical therapy modality on the market. Once
you start using this blanket, the many uses you will
find for this infrared device will benefit your horse
immensely.
Several equine clinical disorders benefit greatly from
the use of the Thermotex Infrared Therapy Systems
Blanket. These are but not limited to:
-
Myositis
-
Exertional Rhabdomyolysis (tying up)
-
Various Neurological Disorders
-
Secondary Compensatory Lameness
-
Muscle Soreness
Myosistis:
The term myositis can simply be broken down to reveal
its meaning with "myo" meaning muscle and "itis" meaning
an inflammation thereof. This inflammation can originate
from trauma, bacteria, viruses or even through the
administration of irritation substances through
injections. If the myositis is localized to a small
area, the application of a single Thermotex Infrared pad
may be all the therapy required.
Exertional Rhabdomyolysis (tying up):
This is a muscular disorder commonly referred to by
owners and trainers as "tying up". This disorder can
range from a mild stiffness of the musculature to actual
cramping and recumbency. The initial stiffness usually
occurs in the neck muscles and over the gluteal areas.
These animals will sweat excessively and have elevated
cardiovascular and respiratory rates in addition to a
slight increase in body temperature. When the muscles
are palpated, there is pain elicited with only minor
digital pressure. The muscles feel tense and stiff,
especially along the longissimus dorsi and gluteal
regions. Another classic symptom of these horses is a
myoglobinuria, which horsemen refer to as coffee-colored
urine. Infrared heat therapy using the Thermotex
Infrared Therapy Systems blanket has greatly reduced the
inflammation within the muscles and greatly reduced the
recovery time of these animals.
Various Neurological Disorders:
Almost all neurological disorders have some effect upon
the musculature. These effects range from muscle atrophy
in severe cases do slight dysfunction that appears as a
mild form f undetermined lameness. Any disorder that has
a direct effect upon the musculature can benefit from
the Thermotex Infrared Therapy Systems Blanket.
Secondary Compensatory Lameness:
The equine athlete is a marvel of locomotor
biomechanics. When a problem occurs within this
biological machine, the entire organism is affected.
Therefore, if a primary lameness problem occurs in the
foot, all of the anatomical structures proximal to the
foot are also effected. Offering the right hind foot as
an example: there is a stone bruise on the inside of the
foot. This affects the way the animal now lands on the
foot which affects the stress on the ankle which affects
the stress on the hock and stifle which ultimately
affects the back of the horse in all of the muscles.
This is how the horse compensates for a lameness
problem. Therefore, don't fall into the habit of
treating only the primary point of lameness in this case
i.e. the stone bruise, treat all of the anatomical
structures involved with this lameness (secondary
lameness) and recovery will be expedited. All lower limb
lameness affects the musculature of the horse's back.
Therefore, it is only logical to utilize the Thermotex
Infrared Therapy Systems Blanket to alleviate any
secondary soreness within these muscles.
Muscle Soreness:
Using the Thermotex Infrared Therapy Systems Blanket as
a daily routine therapy device greatly alleviates muscle
soreness and pain to the equine athlete in training.
Other Uses of the Thermotex Infrared Therapy Systems
Blanket:
Only our intelligence limits us to the potential
usefulness of this product. Over the years the blanket
has been used in the following unique situations:
- As
a field incubator for neonatal foal intensive care.
- As
an aid in the treatment of shock.
-
Adjunct therapy to an animal suffering an allergic
reaction.
-
Numerous cases of trauma.
- To
help ease the spasms of Tetanus.
- As
an aid in recovery of the musculature from a patient
who suffered seizures.
- To
comfort mares suffering from Hypocalcaemia.
- To
increase blood supply to various lacerations to
speed the healing process.
-
Aid in the recovery of "Sweeny."
- As
an aid to speed the healing process on various
abscesses.
-
Acute laminitis.
- As
an aid in the recovery from an epileptic seizure.
Conclusions:

The uses for this unique equine physical therapy device
are almost infinite. To quote Hippocrates: "Above All,
Do No Harm." With the Thermotex Infrared Therapy Systems
Blanket one need not worry about doing harm. Overheating
or burning of the patient is not a concern. All of the
patients who receive therapy from this appliance will
experience muscle relaxation, relief from pain and a
decrease in soreness and stiffness. The final result of
this is that they will reach their full athletic
potential.
