Thermotex Leggings

For
specific use on the front or back legs, this model uses
2 - 3" x 13" and 2 - 3" x 8" infrared pads,
utilizing 48 watts of power (96 watts a pair). A perfect
fit for use on both front and hind legs. Measurements
per leg are upper section 18" x 12"; lower section 16" x
17".

The
leggings are an absolute must for quick treatment of
soreness of bows, splints, osolets, bucked shins, anklets,
ring bone and tendons. In acute cases, alternating cold
therapy with Thermotex infrared heat therapy really
speeds up the recovery process.
There are four elements in each leg unit and the
leggings come in pairs. Leggings fit both front and back
legs equally well.
The following physiological effects are the result of
the application of infrared therapeutic heat to the
lower limbs of the horse:
-
Vasodilatation and increased blood flow throughout
all of the tissues.
-
Analgesia.
-
Increased extensibility within the ligaments and
tendons.
-
Increased metabolic activity within the cell.
-
Decrease in joint stiffness.
To
achieve these desired physiological effects, the
application of Thermotex infrared therapeutic heat and
the duration of treatment should be consistent with your
goals of therapy. Therapy times will vary depending upon
the goal. If the leggings are used as a pre-event
warn-up of the ligaments and tendons before exercise,
the therapy should last approximately 30 minutes. If the
goal of therapy is to treat a clinical condition, then
longer and multiple treatments are beneficial.
Using Thermotex Legging as a Pre-Event Warm-Up:

By using
the Thermotex Infrared therapy Systems Leggings before
exercising, the animal takes that first step out of the
barn more comfortable and flexible. Both the tendons and
ligaments within the limb are more extensible which
allows a greater range of motion within the limb.
Using the leggings upon joints such as the knee, ankle
and hock allows the ligamentous and tendonous structures
around these joints to be more flexible and extensible.
There will be a decrease in the viscosity of the
synovial fluid within the joint. This will result in a
more lubricated joint and a decrease in joint stiffness.
The entire structure of the joint will experience a
relief from pain due to sensory nerves recognizing heat
massages and ignoring the pain messages. These factors
all result in a joint that experiences a reduction in
pain and has a greater range of motion.
Pre-event warm-up or pre-exercise warm-up benefits the
horse regardless of its athletic endeavor or age. An
aged racehorse or jumper will experience flexibility and
pain relief before even starting their daily exercise
program or competing in their event. Young animals in
training are offered relief from their daily rigorous
training and are therefore more willing to perform as
well as perform at a higher level. Injuries to the
tendons are less likely to happen since all of the soft
tissue structures are more flexible.
